Jewel Goes Country?

Jewel. The name brings back so many college memories... driving around with the windows down and her songs blaring on the radio.  Now, she is releasing a new album. And... IT'S COUNTRY?!?!?!?! The album, Perfectly Clear, produced by John Rich, is due to come out on June 3, 2008. The first single, Stronger Woman, is currently #14 on the Billboard Top 200 Hot Country Songs chart. Jewel will tour this summer with country star Brad Paisley. They have announced a show September 18, 2008 at Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta. Tickets go on sale at Ticketmaster soon.

Free Coldplay Show

The British rockers are back! Coldplay's new album Viva La Vida will be released in North America on June 17, and rumor has it available through digital retailers before that. Their first single, "Violet Hill," will be available to download for free on the band's official website for one week, starting on Tuesday, April 29 at 7:15 AM EDT, the same day the single hits radio.

Also tomorrow via their website, Coldplay will release details regarding their upcoming free show in New York City at Madison Square Garden on June 23. Since this is a free show, no tickets will be sold- they can only be won. Coldplay will also play a free show across the pond at Brixton Academy in London on June 16. Motion City Soundtrack goes acoustic

On May 6, Motion City Soundtrack will release their first ever acoustic album which features five tracks off of their recent release Even If It Kills Me. The May 6 release will be exclusively available for download on iTunes; a physical release is expected to hit stores this fall. Motion City Soundtrack is currently touring across North America with Panic At The Disco, including Atlanta this past weekend.

AC/DC is in the Studio!

According to AC/DC's official site, AC/DC fans can expect the band's next album of new material sometime later this year. The band are currently recording in Vancouver with producer Brendan O'Brien and long time audio engineer Mike Fraser. This will be the band's first collection of new material since the release of Stiff Upper Lip in 2000. Stiff Upper Lip debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 and inspired a yearlong tour. Will this release do the same?

We Are the Pipette?

The Pipette's have just released this statement on their Myspace page:

The Pipettes have two new members, Ani and Anna. We are demoing up 20-25 new songs, with an eye to recording a second album in the Summer. We want to tell you all about them, but we’re very much head-down working on new material at the moment

This means that RiotBecki and Rosay have left to pursue other musical pursuits (which will be brilliant when they emerge), we wish them all the best, we’re all still great friends and news on their pursuits will be closely supported by us.People may be confused by such a drastic change in line-up but please rest assured - if we were to be an imitation of ourselves we would stop. Plus the Pipettes has more members come and go than major labels have A&R men, it's just another day in the office for us (plus we’ve got to go one better than the Sugababes).

Do You Want to be the New Lead Singer for Velvet Revolver?

Slash has revealed to Billboard.com that the remaining members of Velvet Revolver are creating a web site to find a new lead singer. "The band is actually talking about actually building a Web site [and] doing some auditions via that, so that's been something that's developing at this point," Slash explains, noting that it should be happening "in the next month or so." This site will help the band replace Scott Weiland, who officially left the band on April 1st, after much public feuding.

Leona Lewis Debuts in the US at #1

British sensation Leona Lewis has continued her record-breaking success as she conquers the U.S., with her album SPIRIT entering the Billboard album chart at #1 today according to SoundScan. This is the first time in music history that a British female artist debuts at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, and it’s the first time ever that a British artist overall has debuted on the chart at #1 with their first album. It is also the biggest female artist first album debut since Carrie Underwood in 2005, and had the biggest digital album sales week ever for a new artist.

Leona will be performing her hit single “Bleeding Love” on American Idol next Wednesday, April 23.
