Janelle Monae - New Music - More Music Videos

Blimey, where did the first month of the year go? It's already time for the Grammys, which take place this Sunday. Atlanta is well represented, as are a fair few other hip indie artists, like MIA and Hot Chip, who we are keeping our fingers crossed for. But when it comes to people we really, really want to win, Janelle Monae really is the ticket. If you haven't checked her out, do yourself a favor, watch the video above and see her at a show, which is, seriously, a life changing, life affirming experience.

But anyway, back to the whole reason for this post. Our mates at Paste Magazine have just posted their picks for who they think will win, who they think should win, and who they think really should win. Like many of us massive music fans, the magazine has a love/hate relationship with the Grammys, since, like we can all agree, so many fine artists get overlooked while so many not-so-talented folks get the nods and the statues (cough, Jonas Brothers, cough cough). Examples of their picks and reasoning:

Butch Walker to Make National TV Debut with Pink

We've all known about Butch Walker for what seems like (and could be) decades now, so it seems shocking that it has taken this long for his national television debut to finally happen.

Butch will be appearing on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on February 3 to perform his new single "Here Comes The..." featuring another fellow Atlantan Pink.

Butch has been a busy boy of late, also working on Pink's own album, as well as writing for Katy Perry (the Walker-penned Perry hit "Thinking of You" just entered the top 20) and Secondhand Serenade.

Katy Perry's "Hot" Summer Continues

This summer’s “It Girl” Katy Perry is cementing her reign as one of this year’s best new artists. As her smash hit “I Kissed A Girl” remains number one atop Billboard’s Hot 100 and radio station countdowns throughout the country, Perry is preparing to release her new single- "Hot N Cold," also off One of the Boys. The energetic “kiss off” dance hit is sure to follow the same path as “Girl.”

Perry is scheduled to shoot the official video for “Hot N Cold” later this month, and the song will officially hit radio in early September. “Hot N Cold” will make its live television debut on August 29, when Perry performs it on NBC’s The Today Show. Perry is also nominated for two MTV Video Music Awards- Best Female Video and Best New Artist; be sure to tune into the live show on September 9 to see Perry hopefully nab her much deserved Moon Men.

Unusual Suspects in the Park

The Unusual Suspects will be rocking the park this Sunday as a part of 99X’s Unplugged in the Park at Park Tavern. They will be playing hits new and old, and if you can’t get enough of the band wake up with them Monday morning. The Unusual Suspects will be promoting their most recent album, Coney Island EP, on Fox 5’s Good Day Atlanta in the 8 o’clock hour. Check out AMG’s interview with the band from last fall.

VH1's #1 Played Video

New comer Justin Nozuka is rapidly climbing the charts with his new album, Holly, as well as a hit music video for his first single, "After Tonight," which is getting serious airplay on VH1, MTV, and now AMG. Check out the video below! Nozuka is currently on tour with Marie Digby and Eric Hutchinson. They played Atlanta's Vinyl last Thursday, June 5 and they're continue to pound the pavement as their tour moves through out the south.

"When I Grow Up" I wanna be a Pussycat Doll?

Those sexy singing sirens are back with a new album and hit single. The Pussycat Dolls are following up 2005's PCD, which sold over 7 million copies, with a new yet-to-be-titled summer release. They debut their first single "When I Grow Up" at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards, last week. Check it out here! Coldplay at MTV's Movie Awards

Check out Coldplay's performance last night on the MTV Movie Awards. They performed "Viva La Vida" off their newest album of the same name. Viva La Vida hits record stores June 17th. Coldplay will also be hitting the road soon in promotion of the new album, including a stop in Atlanta at Philips Areana on Tuesday, November 11! Tickets on sale soon! Leona Lewis Debuts in the US at #1

British sensation Leona Lewis has continued her record-breaking success as she conquers the U.S., with her album SPIRIT entering the Billboard album chart at #1 today according to SoundScan. This is the first time in music history that a British female artist debuts at #1 on the Billboard Top 200, and it’s the first time ever that a British artist overall has debuted on the chart at #1 with their first album. It is also the biggest female artist first album debut since Carrie Underwood in 2005, and had the biggest digital album sales week ever for a new artist.

Leona will be performing her hit single “Bleeding Love” on American Idol next Wednesday, April 23.
