Little Tybee recently played one of our monthly showcases, which we hosted with our sister site Atlanta Music Guide, called DRINKSHOP Live at the W Atlanta Downtown hotel. I'd hate to classify them as just indie folk, because they bring so much more to their music creating delightful vignettes that are just waiting to be eaten up by the masses of hipsters and middle school kids alike. Think of a mellow Dave Matthews Band being led by Badly Drawn Boy. Beautiful stuff. They're playing at The EARL January 14 with Adron, and tickets are available at Ticket Alternative.
Sweden's Soundtrack of Our Lives have always thrilled me both live and on disc with their somehow modern take on pure '60s sweet psychedelic garage rock. Hugely excited that they're coming back stateside, but massively disappointed that they're not playing my hometown of Atlanta. Still, they will be playing the Black Cat in Washington, D.C. on February 18 with Nico Vega. Tickets are on sale at Ticket Alternative.
Bobby Birdman fits wonderfully in that quirky world of keyboard and blips looped together by a smooth voice and adorable melodies. More mellow than Hot Chip and MGMT but just as charming, he's one of my favorite new finds.
We're very excited to announced the details for this year's Peach Drop in Underground Atlanta. "The Largest New Year's Eve Celebration in the Southeast" is bringing a fantastic lineup of music, with Stellate, Ben Deignan, The WannaBeatles and Morris Day and the Time on the main stage. And on the Kenny's Alley stage, there will be performances from Marshall Ruffin, The 54, The Souphonics & Ruby Velle and more. It's a free event, so get there nice and early for maximum fun and a great spot! We'll leave you with a great video of Morris Day and the Time from the movie Purple Rain.
Could definitely also be titled, "Green Screens Are Fun!" On "Loretta," The Dead Trees play a fun 'n' fuzzy rendition of garage rock, the likes of which echo much of the dirtier sounds on The Beatles' White Album, with the thrashing repetition of the last chords carrying on rock 'n' roll where "Helter Skelter" left off. But, alas, with no "I've got blisters on my fingers!" scream.
The band plays with The Cribs and Adam Green at The EARL on January 20. Tickets are on sale at Ticket Alternative now.
Another fabulous trio of videos, freshly picked by yours truly!
The Slackers lovely soulful and sweet version of ska keep the genre hip 'n' cool. And they're off on tour again, stopping at the Rock and Roll Hotel in Washington, D.C. on January 28. Get your tickets now at Ticket Alternative.
Sometimes your punk and new wave classics need a shot of smooth French bossa nova. That's where Nouvelle Vague come in. And lucky for you they're about to tour. They're planning a tour right now so watch this space for tickets!
The Cribs maybe be one of the coolest band in Yorkshire right now (Wakefield to be exact). We obviously like them (check out the review of their latest record, Ignore the Ignorant, over on Atlanta Music Guide), and are pretty happy that they're going to be playing Atlanta's EARL on January 20, with their latest member, a little-known chap called Johnny Marr. Tickets are on sale now at Ticket Alternative.
Since they don't seem to like people imbedding videos from the new record, here's an oldie but a goodie from the band's 2005 record, The New Fellas.
Believe it or not, but the new year is fast approaching, and The EARL already has some stellar stuff lined up for January. They just announced three more great shows too.
From our sister site TA Live - and sorry for the Groove Armada repetition!

In video form again!
Bowerbirds - North Carolina's Bowerbirds may seem like pretty sleepy music but they put on a stellar show. They're coming to Washington D.C.'s Rock and Roll Hotel on December 2 and Atlanta's EARL allll the way into next year on February 12. Tickets are available at Ticket Alternative.
Groove Armada - They're back with an incredible video "I Won't Kneel," with the stunning voice of Saint Savour. We can't wait for the new record to drop in February.
Robbie Williams - We're pretty Brit-centric around here, and are pretty excited to see that Robbie is finally making that big comeback, at least over in the UK. Let's see if we can make a bit of a wave for him over here too...
Incredible Queen-borrowed drums, the stunningly electric voice of Saint Saviour, wicked lighting effects - we love this video! Can't wait for Groove Armada's new record (which this is from) to drop in February.
The EARL has announced it's sure-to-be-crazy New Year's Eve show, and it's with none other that Atlanta's primary rapscallions The Black Lips. They'll be playing the gig with soon-to-be-announced guests - watch this space! The show is sure to sell out so buy your tickets now at Ticket Alternative.
